Scholarships and Badges for 24.2.2020- Information and Application process

Apply or suggest a recipient for the Student Union’s scholarships and badges!

These prestegious awards will be handed out at the Student Union’s Annual Ball, February 24th 2020.

Suggestions and applications should be sent to the General Secretary of the Student Union (ansokan@shs.fi), deadline 17th of December 2019.

 

Ceremonial Awards

Nominations for the Ceremonial Awards and the Student Unions banner should be sent in by at least five Student Union members, the Executive Board, the Elders Council or a Student Council member.

– Stora kårnålen in silver is awarded to a person whom by his or her activity for SHS has earned its recognition.

Lilla förtjänstmärket is awarded to a person whom by his or her activity for SHS has earned its special recognition.

Kamratskapsmärket is awarded to a regular Student Union member who specially deserves the recognition of a ”god kamrat” and who has s promoted a good Hanken-spirit. Kamratskapsmärket required a nomination from one Student Union member.

Scholarships

The Student Union Grant of 250€ kan be applied by and awarded to a student whom greatly has contributed to the Student Union or the Student Association in Vasa. The Student Union scholarship is awarded to a student who has performed at least 120 ECTS in his or her own study program. Only Student Union merits are considered in awarding the Student Union scholarship. The application should include a study transcript and a transcript of Student Union merits.

The Activity Grant can be awarded to students whom greatly has contributed to SHS. The grant can not be applied for and only Student Union merits are considered in the awarding.

Understödsföreningen also grants Student Union activity -scholarships to students who have held a more demanding position of trust in the Student Union. The size of the scholarships is decided by the Board of Understödsföreningen and are maximum 1100€. Positions in the Student Union which qualify for the scholarship are member of the Executive Board, President of the Student Council, President and Treasurer of Casa Nostra, President for the Annual Ball Committee, President of the Information Committee, Exchange Commitee President, Freshman Committee president, IHD President, President of the Program Committee, Sports Committee President, President of the Central Election Committee, President of SSHV and Masters’ Committee President. The applications are ranked by Student Union activity and the scholarships can be applied by persons who’ve had one of the positions during 2018 and whose mandate is ending.

The Student Union ‘Outstanding Member’ Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded yearly to a student who either is finishing their studies at Hanken or have recently graduated. The merits of this scholarship includes; either a diverse background of Student Union activity during their time of study, or a student who has lead or been in a leading role of a large-scale project explicit to the Student Union, along with long term commitment within the Student Union.

The Scholarship Committee prepares the candidates for the award, while the highest decision making organ of SHS, the Student Council, makes the final decision. The SHSUF- board remits its suggestion along with a statement regarding the award to the Student Council- in order for them to make the final decision. This award can be applied for individually or by being nominated for by fellow student(s). The Scholarship Committee can also independently propose a candidate. The scholarship sum is 2000€. The recipient is also awarded a special scholarship letter by the SHSFU- board.

Jalles Horn Memorial Badge

The Scholarship committee awards this memorial award, known as Jalles Horn, in honor of Jalle Storgård. The merits for a person from the Student Union to receive the bi-yearly award includes one or more of the following; progressed the academic and student like traditions of SHS, contributed and maintained the international contacts of the Student Union, assisted in the maintenance of Casa Academic and contributed to the arrangements of the Annual Ball. The memorial award cannot be applied for. The candidates can be proposed by the SHS Executive Board, the Scholarship Committee or by a member of the Student Union. The decision of the recipient made by the Scholarship Committee cannot be disputed or overturned.

Benn Schnitt Scholarship

The Ben Schnitts scholarship,”Den sanna hankeiten”, is awarded yearly to one student. The merits for the award are one or more of the following; Supportive and helpful towards fellow Student Union friends, has worked for a common cause, showed good comradeship and loyalty to the Student Union, worked on behalf of the Student Union, SHS stakeholder associations or federations. Nominations for the scholarships can be encouraged by the SHS Executive Board or by a SHS Student Union member. The scholarship is worth 2000€.

 

Student Union Ambassador Scholarship

 

The Student Union Ambassador Scholarship ‘KårAmbassadörStipendiet (KAS)’, is awarded yearly to a recent graduate student at Hanken or is at best finishing their studies. This scholarship is presented to a student with outstanding success and personal accomplishments that demonstrate ambassador characteristics of SHS, and thus have opened new possibilities for Hanken Students. These merits can be reached through an active role through one or more of the following examples; sports, culture, business and society or; has figured as an ambassador to bring SHS closer together with other Student Unions, associations or business life or; through exchange studies have cooperated with foreign universities or student unions. The scholarship sum is 2000€. The recipient is also awarded a special scholarship letter by the SHSU-board
